Ocean, city and Rottnest views from the highest natural point on Perth's coastal plain. Here's my guide to walking Bold Park and Reabold Hill.
Bushland between the city and the sea
Bold Park, in City Beach and Floreat, is one of Perth’s largest areas of urban bushland. It’s managed by the same team as Kings Park, and it’s home to some of the best walks and views in the western suburbs.
Here’s my guide to exploring Bold Park and the summit of Reabold Hill.
“Reabold Hill is my favourite short walk in Perth. Ten minutes on the boardwalk, and you’re looking at the ocean, the city and Rottnest all at once.”

Reabold Hill summit
At 85 metres above sea level, Reabold Hill is the highest natural point on the Swan Coastal Plain in the metropolitan area. From the top, you can see the Indian Ocean, the Perth skyline, Rottnest Island and Kings Park.
A raised boardwalk, designed for disabled access, runs through the bushland to the summit, so it’s easy with a pram too.
Vehicle access to the car park is from 5.30am to 8pm between 1 November and 31 March. Walkers and cyclists can visit at any time, so bring a torch if you’re staying for sunset.

Bold Park walk trails
Bold Park has several marked trails to suit different fitness levels:
- Camel Lake Heritage Trail: 1.7km, about 30 minutes, easy to moderate.
- Tuart Walk: 1.1km, about 25 minutes, but challenging.
- Zamia Trail: 5.1km, about 1 hour 35 minutes, with varying terrain.
Download a map from Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority before you go. Entry is free, and the park is open daily.
Wildlife and wildflowers
Keep an eye out for birds, lizards and native plants along the trails. Spring is the best time for wildflowers, but there’s plenty to see year-round.

Walking with kids
The Reabold Hill boardwalk and the Camel Lake Heritage Trail are both great for younger walkers. Turn it into a game by spotting birds or counting lizards along the way.
Summer tips
- Walk early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the heat.
- Bring water, a hat and sunscreen, as shade can be limited.
- Stay on the marked paths to protect the bushland.
- Check for fire alerts on hot, windy days.
After your walk
City Beach is just down the road, so it’s easy to follow your walk with a swim. Bold Park Aquatic Centre is also nearby. For a fish and chip dinner by the beach, see our guide to Perth’s best fish and chips.
Get outside
Free, close to the city and full of views, Bold Park is one of my favourite places to walk in Perth. For more nature walks, see our guides to Kings Park and Neil Hawkins Park.
